Afternoon all,

I have a company car that has a factory fitted phone system integrated into the radio / satnav system. I am led to believe that I am being taxed on this as and extra however the phone system has not worked for as long as I have had the car.

As I appear to be paying tax for it should my company be getting it fixed or shouyld this be taken off any tax I am paying? My boss refused to spend any money getting it fixed as it has a string of thing as long as my are that need sorting the car is getting on abit and has high mileage and would end up costing more that the thing is worth.

I have asked about getting the car replaced but again unwilling to spend any money.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

cheers

RD

If you were given a dodgy fiver as part of your wages, would you demand for it to be rectified?

In your case, you appear to have a company car as part of your renumeration package. If it's faulty, demand that it is rectified.

If you don't want to pay tax on the car, you'll have to negotiate returning it to your employer.

You are being taxed on the benefit in kind for the value of the vehicle when it was new, that includes the cost of optional extras ordered at the point of sale. HMRC will not reduce your tax liability even though it does not work.
