If you can't log in on the Halifax website try the bos website and vise versa. Seems to be a few problems today, but if you just switch website it seems to work

I have some debits coming from my account overnight. I've been trying to move money from a websaver to cover this. What happens if the online site doesn't come back up?

If you end up incurring charges for the debits then put in a complaint.

Doubt you will get anywhere. Im sure their T&C will say something about online banking being down from time to time, plus there are other ways to access your account

If online banking is down then it's probably likely, though not impossible, that phonebank will probably be down too. Just guessing, it seems to be back up and running again now though no CRA updates appear to have gone through this month at Lloyds :-(

Id say you'd have a pretty good case. If you can't get through to phone banking because of the queues relating to the online fault and the banks are closed, then you can show that you took every avenue possible to ensure that the money was in the account, but due to Halifaxs system you were prevented from doing so. They have a responsibility to put you back in the position you would have been had the fault not occurred.

Strange. From 1600hrs yesterday I was logged in and out of Halifax multiple times, over several hours, as I tried to resolve an issue with their online people regarding the inability to open online accounts. And had no issues whatsoever with getting into existing accounts.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • ^^^Mike, what problem did you encounter opening an online account? And did it get resolved?
