Which cabriolet to buy?

I've got a maximum of 10k to spend on a 4 seater cabriolet.

Ideally looking for something quite sporty in looks and performance and nothing older than 05/06.

Really like the look of the Audi A4 and VW Eos but not sure whether to go with one of these or something else.

Will be doing 15k miles per year approximately. Fuel paid for by employer but would have to pay for tax, insurance and maintenance myself so a big 3 litre engine would be a no-goer.

Any recommendations?

The VW Eos does have problems with the complicated roof as outlined here

Pertol or diesel, manual or automtic?

SAAB 93 Aero or TTDi if your after a diesel prices have dropped due to Saab going bust but a new Swedish company has started producing all parts for them.

Sorry, I should have said I have no particular preference to petrol or diesel although in respect of the A4 and Eos I'm informed the petrol 2.0 TFSI is the best model.

I'd definitely prefer manual transmission

I do love the Mazda but we need 4 seats unfortunately.

The 3 series BMW seem to hold their prices well so I would have to get an older model in comparison. Not necessarily a huge problem but a consideration.

You'd pick up a reasonable EOS TFSi but the A4s are still above the £10k mark for a reasonable mileage, trade example. The BMW 3 series are probably the best to drive (depending on your tastes) because they are rear wheel drive. You have to ask yourself if you would be happy driving a rear wheel drive car during cold, icy / snowy conditions, which if it is a working vehicle you may have to?

the early 1 series is rather rough around the edges and I'm not sure I'd like to spend 15k miles worth of driving time in one but as I said, it is personal taste.

That's why you need 2!

Any way if the BMW holds its value it will keep holding its value after you have got it.

EOS has plenty of room in the back, BMW doesn't. EOS roof problems aren't unknown. Its not by chance there is now a Golf Cabrio with fabric roof.
