Can you remember what broke? Was it a fluke or a design flaw?

I did take a look at the ones that Aldi have in at the moment, but they look more like a kid's toy than a proper piece of garden machinery!

All i remember is that it just stopped working but it was a good few years old(possibly as much as 6 maybe 7) so had alot of use out of it.

Yes the aldi strimmer looked good for the price but once we started to use it wefound the auto feed didnt work and it wasnt 1 that you could do a vertical cut and a horizontal cut. Domn think we'll buy any other electrical products from aldi.

I have a Worx cordless strimmer which has worked well but the battery has only lasted around 18 months and the replacement price is almost the cost of the strimmer itself which is no use so I'm looking for a standard corded replacement as never had much luck with battery powered tools and do not want a petrol model.

Reading around most strimmers seem to get consistently negative reviews for problems with the line feed which is problems I've had with both a Black and Decker model and a Bosch one, the B&D one would unwind its entire reel in under an hour and the Bosch one wouldn't reel it out at all. The only one I've found which seems to get consistently good reviews is the Black and Decker GL5028SB although it's out of stock at Amazon and I can't find anyone locally selling it.

Any other recommendations for corded strimmers with a working reel system? The frustrating part of it all is that I had a Black and Decker which worked flawlessly for years until the motor failed, if I'd realised new strimmers didn't work very well I'd have spent more time trying to fix it.

Take a look at Freds Shed, he often has good advice, not impartial but informative.
