Car advice for numerous concerns

Sorry, I was under the impression it was going to cost you hundreds to get through an MOT.
If you can get it MOT'd cheaply then do so and sell the car before you leave, at least then someone will get a years use out of it. Any car with a long MOT is worth something.0 -
Are you taking the car on the roaf trip
MOT only before you go on the trip or after if not taking it.
Try to source a proper mirror, start now, try ebay, scrappers and dismantlers, some have on-line access or phone and will post.
Forget the service most checks are the same as the MOT, with no history for 6-7 years it will be a waste of money if it has a report of changes componants from Jan.
Brake disc will be OK as long as the brakes pass MOT.
when did you buy this car? what did you pay? what happened to the mini?
scap £200 MOT(8m+) £500+(ish) at this age/price you don't throw money at cars.
there are only 38 neons on autotrader
What need for transport after the road trip?
You could try to sell at a highish price OR price to sell with a pick up date just before you leave.
make sure you have the scrap/spares value and what to do to get rid last minute, you could try a few local bottom end dealers they might take it for a bit more if it can be tarted up.
you then way up the cost to find alternative transport for time left against kepping and scrapping
.
Don't spend any money you don't have to the history could be it's downfall what happed to the car for those missing years service?0 -

I'm taking the car FOR the road trip so will get the MOT before I go.Try to source a proper mirror, start now, try ebay, scrappers and dismantlers, some have on-line access or phone and will post.
Already found a mirror for 40 quid. I technically have replacements already but they are not safe. I want the originals as they have superior vision and can be controlled by the remote.Forget the service most checks are the same as the MOT, with no history for 6-7 years it will be a waste of money if it has a report of changes componants from Jan.
You are probably right. I will forgo this service.Brake disc will be OK as long as the brakes pass MOT.
When I got the car services in January, they informed me the brakes were still legal and would pass an MOT, but the dics were below the manufactures specified limits. It is possible they are no longer legal.when did you buy this car? what did you pay? what happened to the mini?
My Dad bought this car back in 2003/4 for my brother for about 6000. At the time it had 1 previous owner and FSH. This is the car my brother learned to drive in. My brother never serviced the car and in 2009 stopped driving it completely as he no longer had the funds to pay for insurance/tax/petrol.
I took it off him in 2010 and spent 400 getting it taxed/MOTd.
I sold it to my friend in early 2010 for 200 quid (give away really). He then sold it back to me for 300 in October 2011 (he had recently taxed/motd it so the extra 100 was worth it
.
Having looked through all the documents (we kept everything) I noticed that it hadn't been serviced since my Dad left the country in 2005/6 time.
I decided it should get the full works and went for a major service costing around 200 quid.
I bought the mini in September 2011 since I had unexpectedly needed a car. But it was a pile of **** and sold it in November at a loss of over 800 quid, having already bought back the Chrysler.
I am intimately familiar with the Chryslers history as it has been within the family (and 1 friend) for the last 8 years. In that time it has never broken down and a total of 900 GBP has been spent on repairs and services in that time.
Personally I think this car should fetch a price closer to 1000, but given the dent/scratch on the wing and door and the fact that there are now '6' previous keepers on the V5 (despite 2 of them being me with 4 being myself/direct family) I just don't see it fetching a good price.scap £200 MOT(8m+) £500+(ish) at this age/price you don't throw money at cars.
Probably right, but I have a slight emotional attachment to this car. Probably clouding my judgement. What need for transport after the road trip?
All kinds of daily stuff. Shopping, going out to the cinema etc. It's just very convenient to use a car
. I know we dont NEED it.You could try to sell at a highish price OR price to sell with a pick up date just before you leave.

What do you mean 'tarted up'? I may try this. Try and sell high and have backup arrangements for scrapping.Don't spend any money you don't have to the history could be it's downfall what happed to the car for those missing years service?
I actually have the complete history. A lack of servicing is not a lack of history.
I should also point out that the car does less than 5,000 miles a year. Few service intervals have been missed on the basis that the mileage is low. 12 years and 5 months on, I only just recently passed the 6,000 mile mark.0
