how to revive garden bench
PURRING
Have just been given, what had been, a really lovely quality teak garden seat. Unfortunately ten years without care have taken their toll, any advise on how to revive the seat. It is quite cracked and needs a lot of TLC , but I'd rather like to keep it looking as natural as possibe, without resorting to gloss paint to cover it all up. Any advise would be much appreciated.

1. Pressure wash it.
2. Sand with very fine sand paper to remove any bits.
3. Use a good quality teak renovating oil.0 -
I'd never have thought of using pressure hose as I have taken great pains to dry it out all winter. I reckon it would clean it up nicely before I start the TLC. MANY THANKS0

I'd just pressure wash and lightly sand - if you oil it then I'd be worried about losing that light silvery effect you get with teak.0

I can see that the silvery effect has an appeal. But I think that it would be better to 'feed' and revive the wood, since it has presumably dried out. Suitable oiling will also help it to withstand many more years of exposure to the elements (assuming it is to be used outdoors...)

I have done dozens of these and the best way as has been sugested is with a presure washer, but leave it out to get wet which will soften the dirt and algae and it will come off easier.
