Grrr, I changed the channel, hurrah, then lost all access. The computer sporadically found the router, and although signal strenght had become excellent, it 'wasn't in range'.

Now connected via ethernet, so hopefully support will talk me through it.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

:eh: It cannot have an excellent signal strength and not be in range at the same time
How do I add a signature?

Sorry, I mean, when it appeared in the list, it had excellent strength, but when I clicked on it, it had gone, the router just didn't appear for any length of time.

Anyhoo, after chatting to an advisor, it seems that changing from channel 1 to 2 couldn't solve the issue because it needs to be on 1,3,7 or 9. Pity it didn't say that on the help pages, d'oh.

OK. Where is the router located? What is around it? Is it near any other electrical items (TV, Microwave, Cordless Telephone etc)

Have moved the router to the other side of the room. 40 mins on the phone to talktalk, network adaptor .... adapted, some other stuff disabled, removed, reinstalled, too complicated.

Back online, as you can see, will check xbox live and hopefully those items used more than three feet away will now work.

That may well be what it says on the TT script, but it's complete nonsense I'm afraid. But if you have no other wireless networks in range (which is surprising unless you are in a large detached property) then the channel choice is immaterial, unless it's interference from another device as above.
ISP supplied routers are inavariably the cheapest Chinese made junk they can buy, why not just get a decent Netgear from eBay for a tenner? A DG834G or similar will do the job, unless you need 'N' speeds.
