Travel insurance refund

I wonder if anyone can help me with travel insurance problem.
My sister has insured my mother for a cruise due in July. She paid around £140 last November. She informed the company of Mum's illness and what medications mum took. Couple weeks ago Mum had heart attack, she is ok Doc's. say mum can still travel and they have put her on Warfrin tablets. Now when sis. told insurance company of changes they say they will not insure. Are we entitled to a refund of the money already paid ?

Another insurance company is prepared to insure but the price is now £541.

Grateful for any help on this.

:)

Won't they pay the charges now for your Mum to cancel the trip?

Mum still wants to go and doctor says she is ok to travel. We have to find a new insurance company to insure her as the company we paid will not now insure her. We just want the money we paid back. Or at least some of it. They are pulling out not Mum.

I am trying to find as much info as possible for my sister who is trying to sort it out.

Read up what it says in the policy regarding changes to health prior to departure, and options available as a result of them, and the section in the policy on "cancellations" by us (ie cancellation by the insurer)

Usually an insurer would pay for cancellation if they were no longer able to offer cover.

In this case, giving a refund may be (a lot) cheaper for the insurer than paying the holiday cancellation costs!

If the doctor certifies she is fit to travel, has this been passed on to the insurer?

Thank you for again responding. This I will now pass on to my sister. I believe she has told them the doctor said Mum can travel.

Unfortunately I am away on holiday and sis. is at home with all documents etc. Thanks again.
