Hi, We bought a firm mattress a couple of months ago and I think it's too firm for me. When I wake up in the night i'm in pain to move, last night my hips where in agony even when i got up and walked around a bit it didnt go straight away. Can I buy a topper like memory foam for just one side if the bed?
Thanks for any help

I would say you could buy a single one but to be honest I doubt it would do much to soften the bed, memory foam can be quite firm also. Its really annoying as its pretty important for a good nights sleep and everyones preference if different. Swap with a family member? Bite the bullet and gumtree it?0

The mattress is fine for my partner so changing it would just switch the problem around. I thought of getting a single topper but wasn't sure if it would move. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. If you don't mind slightly hot, put a duvet on top of your mattress.0

That's an idea not but sure if it would flatten in time and if it would move. I'm a cold person to the point my partner got me an electric blanket for Christmas. He got one that you can controll both sides so he can be cold while I'm nice and warm

You could do this and the topper shouldn't move.
Suggest you look for a latex topper. Softer than memory foam, perfect for adding comfort but bit more expensive than memory foam.
I have one on my bed as the bed was too firm for me and I had the same problems as you. The latex topper helped immensely, no more hip or shoulder pain.Herman - MP for all!

Putting a duvet on top of your mattress (plumping it up when you make the bed) would give you an idea of whether a feather/down topper would help. We take a spare duvet on holiday with us and use it this way as we always find mattresses in holiday accommodation too firm.0 -
been there, done that. Hard beds made my hips ache a lot and yes memory foam toppers work fantastically well. Feather toppers do not work after the first few days as the feathers get broken and squashed. Memory foam is hot in the night though and we ended up with toppers with egg box shapes on one side, much airier and better, so I didn`t wake sweating. We even take them to dd`s house as she has a firm spare bed.
We simply keep the toppers rolled up in the cupboard and even take them on holiday. We now sleep in two singles locked side by side, each with our own mattress and duvet, lovely.0 -

Do you know the make of the topper or what type it is. Think I will try a single topper as his side is fine and see how I get on. Just the dreaded task of looking and finding one now

Memory foam topper would be worth considering, but like others have said, can be very hot and sweaty to sleep on, so get one with aerated design.
Otherwise, you could buy a foam mattress similar to those that come with camping beds, which has the advantage of a cotton covering.
You just need to find the right variant of foam padding!
