New streamline benefits system coming in

I was in a meeting yesterday at work and a new benefits system was mentioned and the concern about this new benefit where you are assessed for all of your needs and you are paid in one payment instead of these being all split....

Has anyone else heard about this?:)

Presumably you've had your head in a bucket of sand for the last year or so........
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Yes it is called Universal credit....

I think the idea is all benefits are dealt with in the same department which means it will be easier to assess and people who claim will be acuratly assessed.

Likewise if someone is missing out this will stop as this will all be in one assessment.

I think it will aim to prevent over paying?

    It's not.
    As I understand it:
Contributions-based Employment and support allowance and JSA aren't included.
Nor is Disability living allowance. (Will be PIP by then).
Nor (for example, there will be lots of smaller benefits) industrial injuries disablement benefit.
Migration over from tax credits will be 'fun'.

Council tax isn't in the system either, and is going to be devolved to local authorities - so implementation becomes a postcode lottery, further confusing people.

Dig out the govt proposal on the Universal Credit system.

It does not scrap all separate benefits but rolls up a handful of them.

The aim is to simply the system, prevent fraud and make employment pay more than being on benefits. It will have a different type of conditionality than now.
