Will you need to inform them that your pregnant?

It is not a requirement to let DLA know that you are pregnant.

It is for IS/ESA/IB however, as far as I know, although not sure at what point in the pregnancy i.e. how many weeks.

It is not a transfer DLA is being abolished! First of all you will receive a letter in 2013 telling you all about it asking you if you would like to appy for the new benefit (PIP). If you say no, then your DLA is likely to be cancelled forthwith.

If you say yes, your DLA will continue and you will receive a PIP application form. Then you will have a face to face assessment. Depending on the result your DLA will cease and PIP will take over or your DLA will cease and that is the end of it. You can of course appeal against the PIP decision, but during that time before it is heard by a Tribunal, you will receive no benefit, DLA or PIP.

A link please as to where you found this detailed information as to what will happen in 2013.

Congrats OP, hope all is going well for you.

So envious of you Edinburghlass, I rely on my 26yo son and 21yo (nearly) daughter so much. I would be totally lost without them. I was with the ex-missus for 21 years (married for 16 of them) and didn't even get a 'get well soon' card or message. How ironic that her current chap was knocked off his motorbike and ended up in the exact same ward I was in for a couple of weeks..... Needless to say, I hold no malice towards him and have no feelings left for the ex-wife but just found it ironic that she ended up visiting the very ward I was on just a few months later. :)

Not really, you will be asked in 2013 if you want to claim PIP. If you don't reply or say you don't want to claim it, your DLA will cease there and then.

Many I know will not be applying for PIP as they know full well that with the 'new' descriptors it would be a waste of their time making the application.

As an example, if someone is receiving HRM - DLA because they have difficulties in walking very far but do not use a wheelchair or any aids, then there will be no point in making an application for PIP as they will not be entitled to the enhanced rate for mobility under PIP. People aren't stupid - well some are - they will know that they don't have a hope in hell of getting the award so won't apply. They may drag it out and say they will apply for PIP hoping that their DLA will continue for another 12/18 months or so.

There you go again Andy, scaremongering. You think mobility PIP is all about a wheelchair and you are hugely mistaken. There is no need for anyone not to claim when invited.

I draw your attention to the FULL requirements for enhanced rate mobility and not just the two little wheelchair pointers you keep focusing on to scare people. You do NOT need a wheelchair to be eligible for PIP mobility enhanced rate.

You do if you don't have any mental health issues!!!!

You say that I don't have any idea about PIP and mobility.
For the sake of clarity tell me then how someone would qualify for the enhanced rate if they didn't have any mental problems with planning and following a journey?

I am sure that you would agree that a wheelchair certainly does come into the equation.

Why are you continually pointing out that people with mobility problems and don't have a wheelchair should have mental issues?

As for everyone claiming PIP, would it not help if people first of all maybe checked that they would be entitled to an award before putting in a claim and more than likely clogging up the system?

I dread to think what will happen at the Tribunal Service if those that really don't have a hope in hell of being awarded it also clog up the appeal system any more than it is already!

And please stop calling me by a name that has nothing to do with me. It is getting boring now.

Where have I said this? The descriptors are what I where referring to?

You do not necessarily need a wheelchair for enhanced rate, you are telling people if they don't use a wheelchair to not bother applying for PIP they may as well give up if they dont have a wheelchair, and their DLA will be terminated as soon as PIP comes in.

The descriptors clearly show that what you keep stating about wheelchairs is not the case.

Yes I will stop calling you Andy - doesn't alter the fact that you are though.

    I'll put it simply:

If you have mental issues (Section 10 applies) you may be able to have the enhanced mobility rate awarded without the need of a wheelchair.

If you have no mental issues then you will (under Section 11) have to have a wheelchair. Anybody that does not have a wheelchair in this category is wasting their time hoping and claiming for the enhanced mobility rate.
And by not applying for PIP when asked will see their DLA award terminated.

    Do we now agree?

No. You can get enhanced rate if you need help moving from one chair to another - no wheelchair needed.

You can get enhanced rate if you need supervision (there are plenty of scenarios where people without MI need supervision) or you use a guide dog. No wheelchair needed.

You can get enhanced rate if you can walk 50 metres unaided by anything but need supervision. No wheelchair or even stick needed.

    There may be more scenarios.
