im still trying to fath out my laptop and how to connect it to my pc.....everything is up and running but, it says a network cable is unplugged - now, i think somehow virgin media have firewalled it as i did phone and ask them and they said as i was using a set top box i would have to put in for a modem and do it that way - they said i shouldnt be networking using a settop box - so - could they have stopped me?

any ideas or do i have to go to the trouble of having a modem installed?

I think you are going to need to elaborate, what do you have equipment wise, what are you trying to do, and how is it wired up. Network cable unplugged just means that you don't have a network cable plugged in..
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I connect to the internet via a set top box, and when I bought my laptop last year I connected a wireless router and the laptop receives the internet without any problems. I didn't ask NTL (as they were then) about it, just did it. My laptop always says a network cable is unplugged but since the internet is on ok I just ignore it

That is what you have to do, you ignore it.

The reason why it says network cable is unplugged, is because believe it or not your network cable is unplugged.

The reason why you are connecting to the internet on your laptop is because you are not using the wired connection (a cable connected from your laptop to either your router or modem) but you are using the wireless side.

You can either use wireless to connect to the router or wired, if you don't use wired and you don't have the cable connected from your laptop to your router then it will say cable not connected, that is a windows message.

Your PC should be hardwired to the same router (though you could use wireless on that too).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
