Morrisons car park again

The Morrisons in my town has a cash machine down an alley from the car park so you actually have to leave the car park to use this cash machine which is built into one of the shop's wall.

You also have to pass the big issue seller who hangs about in this alley who is sneezing all the time.

Or is he saying big issue?

So I park my car and go down the alley to use the cash machine.

2 minutes later I am going past my car to enter the shop when I notice a big yellow thing on the windscreen.

That's right, a ticket for leaving the car park, and no sight of the thing who stuck it there.

So I go into the shop and go to the CS desk and ask to speak to the manager and tell him what has happened and I am not spending the £200 I took out of the cash machine in his store because of the ticket.

He goes OH! not another one, just ignore it I will sort this out.

Seemingly the thing who patrols the car park has been targeting people going to the cash machine before going into the shop.

I said to him I am not shopping here again as this is the third ticket I have had here in the past 6 months and told him that I am emailing Morrisons head office about this and left.

Went to Tesco and now they have cameras at the entrance to their car park and recording all the cars entering and leaving their car park.

Is there anywhere where I can shop without having to worry about parking? (Rhetorical)

    Morrisons, Tesco, any retail park.

They are not real tickets, just absolutely ignore anything these shysters throw at you. They are not authorised to 'fine' you so jst ignore them.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

You could stay at home and get the bus, walk or get the shopping delivered. That's the only way to avoid over zealous parking patrols.

As above you can just stop there anyway and use the bits of paper for whatever purpose you want.

In these difficult times, continue to shop wherever is most convenient and cheapest for you. And regard any "tickets" as an occupational hazard.

If they have cameras, like the Tesco, I drive in and out, then back in and out again.

That the moron gave you a ticket is unsurprising. The biggest mystery is why Morrisons continue to tolerate him being there. He is supposed to be working for them.

Doing what? Reducing their turnover, I would say.

It's a wonder our good friend hasn't come on here congratulating the goon for his promptness and efficiency in ensuring that you did not abuse Morrisons' hospitality by leaving their car park for a minute. Dastardly crime fully meriting the fine! And I would be careful if I were you! Parking companies have been known to take people to Court and win! Yeah, and England have been known to win the World Cup, it's just that no-one can really recall when...
  • I will go back to Morrisons,

I just wanted to make a fuss and let others know what idiots Morrisons are for using idiots to patrol their car parks.

I had noticed earlier in the day that Tesco had 5p off a litre that's why I went there.

I had forgotton but when I was in Morrisons I remembered and used that as an excuse to myself to go to Tesco.

I am not a loyal shopper I go where the bargains are

Note that in English Law the fine has to be REASONABLE. We've all heard of the cowboy clampers who have clamped hearses that were in the business of undertaking the deceased but these morons know no limits. In a town fifty miles away where I sometimes shop there are expensive council car parks. A much better deal can be had at a shop that offers "2 hours free parking for customers". I go in and buy chocolate bars (which makes me a customer) and leave the receipt on top of the dash. Its a good deal and the council doesn't give you chocolate bars! Normally the system works beautifully but once I was delayed by endless queues in every shop that I went in. I was hungry after all that walking and I needed a burger. Well now fast food turned out to be slow food and I left the car park about five minutes late. Later I received a threatening letter demanding £70 with menaces stating that the fine would increase and there might be court action and bailiffs. I did not refuse to pay. Instead I sent them a cheque for £5 which after all was £1 a minute and I pointed out that their charges had to be reasonable. I received another letter with a chequered border made to look like a police letter. This letter demanded £65. Not to be outdone I used Microsoft Office 97 to produce a similar letter with a chequered border and my letter pointed out that they had already been paid £1 a minute and that their charges had to be reasonable. I think that if they had gone to court the fact that they had been paid something would have weakened their case tremendously so they gave up! I saved £65! At another car park which was in Worcester they had tiny tiny warning signs (well I presume they must have had signs) A hawk-eyed friend had come along for the ride and neither of us saw any signs even though we looked for them. Later a fine letter dropped through the letterbox but I refused to pay stating that I had a witness to the fact that there were no visible signs. They backed down. Allegedly a common dodge is to have just one large sign and obscure it with a furniture van but we didn't even see a van. Good luck!
  • Private companies cannot fine you. They can sue you for loss of earnings. Proving to a court that they have incurred any losses by you parking in a free car park would be difficult. When judge asks how £80 is a fair charge, they say it is a penalty. Judge says private companies cannot issue penalties. You win.

You could have saved £70 by not even bothering to send them the fiver.

Grumpy, you are certainly on the right track, but note that in English law a fine has to be non-existent. As Andrew says none of these private companies have any right whatsoever to fine you a penny. That's why our simple advice is, do not pay and take no notice of their try-on.

The only time where we would suggest payment is where someone genuinely owes them money for a parking fee which they did not pay but should have done.

Amusing approach, though they would not have got the £5 out of me for a free car park. Unfortunately their mentality is that if you let them know you think it's legit, they will badger you all the more.

Sorry to hear about the ticket (just ignore it) but what's up with your grumbling about the big issue seller? Our local Big issue man works hard to make a little money for his family to live on and is probs the politest seller in town!
