Hi there,
Today i bought a car from a dealership close to where i live it is a ford focus and is 2003 and bought for 1900, nothing suspicious there. I paid for it and there is nothing wrong with the car except 2 things i need advice on because i am not car / mechanic savvy.
1) The V5 Document that the dealer didnt give me because he said that his dealership deals with it send it dvla etc. (i phoned dvla earlier this evening and the guy said that wasnt altogether unusual and he doesnt think anything untoward is going on and some dealers do sort the v5 document without the customer - but i would prefer a second opinion on that).
2) The Mileage on that clock has been put from 71300 to 19900 he explained that this was due to a clutch / cluster repair or something and the clock was put back because of this issue. (need some verification)
anyone who could possibly help would be grateful.

Sounds awful iffy to me....
Wait for more responses on here. Was it a main dealer or a little back street trader.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi thanks for reply. Basically the dealer in my opinion was more of a decent dealer than a back street, all the cars had big RAC signs on them and notices all over about car regulation authoritys rules and regs and that all cars have a rac service aswell as there own service. Im 90% sure im ok with the car its just a nagging thing in my mind i dont think the dealer was dodgy although someone may see he is as dodgy as hell maybe i have a bad judge of character.Proud to be dealing with my debts  :rolleyes:0

So the car has been clocked???Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

The car will have had a failed instrument cluster.
This will have been replaced with one from a scrapyard from a car with 19900 on the clock.
It isn't illegal, as long as it is declared.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Ah withabix thanks alot, failed instrument cluster is what he said but i wasnt sure what that was, it has been declared on the mot and the dvla site confirmed the mot was authentic.Proud to be dealing with my debts  :rolleyes:0

No harm in checking MOT history online to see if the mileages covered in previous years support the original 70 odd thousand the car is supposed to have covered.0

I think i should go to bed and stop being a worrier everything including advice here points at me worrying about nothing ill just wait 2 weeks or so for dvla too send me new v5 and i have 6months guaranteed warrantee on car if anythingProud to be dealing with my debts  :rolleyes:0

Dealers handling the V5 is normal.
Sounds like the instrument cluster has been swapped - the fact that you have been told of the mileage before / after sounds like its a genuine repair, although the mileage does sound a little low for 9 years its not out of the realms of possibility.0 -
The dealer should give you the green new keeper tear off slip, and then send the rest of to the DVLA.
They have told you about the mileage, so can't be trying to hide anything. Just bear it in mind if you ever come to sell the car on.0 -
Has the car got a full service history as this will support the mileage.
Mileage does seem a little low for a car that is about 9 years old. Would have expected between 90 & 110k. But 71k could be correct and the condition of seats, interior (assume mats will have been changed), etc. is what will suggest actual usage.0
