Reviva Health Clubs for Women

I was a member of the Edinburgh branch and with no notice it closed.

When I telephoned the Glasgow branch they told their head office would be writing to all Edinburgh - but nothing has ever been heard. The telephone number given was not a real number and the Glasgow branch also appears to have gone now.

The details of the company are

Reviva Health Clubs for Women
Head Office
Stanley House
Edon Business Park
Thame Road
Oxford OX33 IJN

T: 01865 875444
F: 01865 875445

As the membership was paid in full in December this is an entire year's membership that has been taken under false pretences.

It appears that Aludel is the parent company of Reviva health clubs for women. Aludel is the largest operator of women only health clubs in the UK but I can't find Aludel!

Can anyone offer advice on who to contact to reclaim this money - there must be something set up for the unfortunate members of this.
Nice to save.

I am so sorry for you!

It seems that they have been in receivership since August 2004!

I think the best thing to do is to go to the CAB and to talk to them.

I hope that this gets sorted for you soon.
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

Ladies only health club chain heads into receivership

Aludel, operator of the ladies-only health club chain Reviva, has been placed in administrative receivership.

The chain’s failure has been attributed to having insufficient capital to allow it to refurbish its sites and be able to compete in the highly competitive private health club sector.

Aludel was incorporated in December 2000, acquiring 16 women-only health clubs from Lady in Leisure a year later with the new brand, Reviva, being launched in 2002.

In July last year, CEO Martin Callan put out a call to investors to raise £4m for refurbishments across its portfolio, which consisted of 17 clubs at the time.

He planned a two-phase upgrade plan: firstly, £50,000 would be spent on a cosmetic refurbishment of each club and new Technogym equipment. Then, the company would re-evaluate the estate to determine which clubs would benefit from a full refurbishment, which was expected to cost up to £350,000 per site.

The full programme of refurbishment was scheduled to have completed by December 2005, with Callan planning to at least double the number of clubs by the following year – predicting that by then, EBITDA would be in excess of £6 million.

Following the sale of two clubs earlier this year, the chain currently operates 15 sites; mainly in the north of England and the Midlands.

Joint receiver, Mike Oldham of RSM Robson Rhodes, said he believed the ladies-only health club concept has an ‘exciting future’ and offers ‘great potential for investors’.

Well it appears the saga continues! lol
Kevin J Hellard and Michael JC Oldham of this firm were appointed joint administrative receivers of Aludel on 4 August 2004. As receivers we negotiated the sale by Aludel Limited of ten of the Reviva clubs to Bourton Mill Ladies Only Leisure Limited ("BMLO") with effect from 1 November 2004. These clubs were at Birmingham, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Huddersfield, Leeds, Nottingham, Sheffield, Walsall and Wolverhampton. Leicester club was sold to HT Fitness Limited with effect from 1 December 2004. Other clubs at Birkenhead, Bristol, Liverpool and Preston were closed in October and November. We are also aware that prior to our appointment clubs at Hull and Chester were closed in May 2004.

The Aludel head office at Edon Business Park near Oxford was closed in January 2005 after brief use by BMLO and transfer of head office functions to BMLO's own office at 6 High Street, Oxford. Mail addressed to Aludel or Reviva at the former head office is being forwarded to us, but is normally delayed by about a week.

BMLO have entered administration on Monday 21 February 2004 having ceased trading on Friday 18 February (except for the Edinburgh club which we understand closed on 13 January). The lead administrator is William Turner from accountants Chantrey Vellacott DFK and he has set up a dedicated contact line for club members on 020 7509 9120

If you paid an annual or other long period subscription between 4 August 2004 and 31 October 2004 inclusive, we have reserved funds in the receivership to repay you and members in a similar position should BMLO or HT Fitness fail to honour their obligations by providing the services for the remainder of your subscription.

If you paid prior to 4 August 2004, you have a claim against Aludel
Limited, but this is not a claim against the receivers and ranks alongside other unsecured debts owed by Aludel Limited to club members and suppliers. It is extremely unlikely to be paid even in part. However, if you made the payment using a credit card or other financial product you may have a claim against the credit provider.

We are not aware of any arrangements which may have been made by BMLO for advance subscriptions paid from 1 November 2004 onwards, but payments by credit card may be protected as above.

    Regards
for and on behalf of Aludel Limited

I have now contacted the receiver for Mill Ladies Only Leisure Limited
    Nice to save.
