Any Driver Car Insurance
Pewit
My 84yo mother has a 10 year old Citroen ZX which she can no longer drive but she lives in a rural location and we have careers who come in for a 2-week period to look after her.
We have been putting them on her policy as named drivers but it is time consuming when they are only there for 2 weeks at a time.
Her current insurer (SAGA) doesn't offer an "any driver" policy and I looked at Elephant and Confused.com but neither of them are able to search for that kind of policy.
My other thought is to add my mother's car to my sister's policy (she is based nearby) and cover it that way.
Can anyone recommend solution and a broker/insurer to try?
Regards
Paul

Most insurers do offer Any Driver policy but because they are rarely bought it tends to be done only over the phone or through brokers and not online.
Remember with Any Driver policys that there is conditions of the drivers age/ licence etc for anyone using the "Any" part - you can also add named drivers/ policyholder etc who are not able to drive under the Any part. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

What about putting the car on my sister's policy since my mother is no longer a driver?

You can only cover 1 car on a policy unless its a temporary additional vehicle which are allowed to be added for a short period of time only.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

She could take out another policy on the vehicle.
There are a couple of insurers that offer multi-vehicle policies but in reality most are just linked policies rather than a true multi car policyAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

If my sister was to become the registered keeper of the vehicle and then insure it separately for any driver, I'm fairly certain it would be cheaper than my 84yo mother insuring it, particulalry as my sister is a 51yo teacher living in a small village.

She would not need to become the registered keeper, anyone can insure a vehicle as long as you have an interest in it (eg someone has lent it to you to look after) but premiums are slightly higher if you are not the registered keeper (generally).
Certainly with most insurers once you go over the age of 75 or 80 premiums become more expensive again
Havent looked at an any driver policy for a while but I am fairly sure that most say the "any" is only for those between the ages of 25 and 75 so if you do go down this route then your mother may not be able to drive the vehicle even if she wanted to or in an emergency (unless you added her as a named driver)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

If you saw my mother's drving there's no way she should be on the road - and that's before she became wheelchair-bound! :-)0
