Solicitors?

Hi,

Im a FTB. In the process of arranging a mortgage and have a 2nd meeting with the bank next week. I need to find a solicitor though. How? As a FTB Ive no idea where to start. Flick through the Yellow Pages, somewhere online? Where can I find a decent solicitor? And how much should I expect to pay, our mortgage will be up to £250k? Any help appreciated.

The Yellow Pages is certainly one place to start. Alternatively, your estate agent might be able to make an introduction for you if you want to use a local solicitor.

For straight forward transactions more and more people are using the online / direct conveyancing firms. Just search for conveyancing and you'll find plenty of firms who do everything by post, so no need to visit their offices.

How much should I be expecting to pay roughly for buying a house up to £250,000? Ive just had a look at online conveyancing quotes and comparisons, and they come out at just a few hundred. I was told to expect to pay between 0.5-1.5% to the solicitor for their services. Am I missing something, or are they conveyancing quotes not the whole story on whats required?
