Can I retire before 65?

My OH was working to the bitter end. His last shift was on a Friday night which was his 65th birthday and we had arranged a birthday do for him that night not seeing any problems, so he asked his manager if he could finish on the Thursday night instead.
Cue lots of ranting and wailing about how he was letting the side down etc. as they had already done the rota for that month.
His manager was an a r s e.
So he said how much notice do I have to give.
A week he was told.
This was 3 weeks before his birthday.
Here is my weeks notice I shall work my last shift next Friday, this was a Friday night.
Told he couldn't do that as he had to work until he was 65, he said I will just sign on for 2 weeks, he knew he wouldn't get any benefits not if he left, he also knew he had enough NI.
In the end he left the next Friday, never went near the job centre, and his pension was paid into his bank account at the correct time.
All he lost were 2 weeks pay but he said it was worth it to have the manager following him around for a week trying to get him to change his mind.
I did mention his manager was an a r s e?0 -

Loyalty counts for nothing. I think of myself first now and that is my priority.0
