Flourescent light spacing in Loft

Hi

I have a 43ft long, regular shaped loft space, which is approximately 10 feet high to the apex. Gable ends are grey concrete block and the roof is black felt, so no much light reflection.

Going to fit 4 x five foot flourescents right up in the apex, so 20 foot of lighting, three gaps between fittings and two end gaps. Can anyone advise me of how I should use the 23 feet, in terms of the three gaps between fittings and two gaps to gable ends, to best distribute the light.

Thanks

Sounds like a GCSE question to me. Without calculating lumens and without resorting to trigonometry I would go with gaps of 2.5,6,6,6,2.5.

No - it wasn't a trick question from the krapton fictor - I just wanted an idea about the best positions for the lights:-)

My best guess would have been 3',5'8",5'8",5'8",3' , so we are in the same area.

    Thanks

If you have some spare white/magnolia emulsion paint you could paint the gable ends to reflect some light. Then you could go maybe 4',5,5',5',4'. This would also be slightly easier to measure. But I wouldn't bother to buy any paint specially.

That is an excellent suggestion or at least it appears to be, having just returned from the pub:-)

:rotfl:It was a charity horse racing night - good fun.

Now morning and the idea still sounds very good - perhaps wait until lunchtime before making a final decision:)
