marrow bones

i've just been given 2 marrow bones for my dogs, but i was wondering.....can i use them for anything else other than giving them to the dogs?

i wasn't sure if i could boil them up to make stock?

More than likely as these have been given as bones for the dogs they are either not fit for human consumption or they have been round for a bit I often get bones from the butchers for the dog as she loves them, but they are rarely from todays slaughters or delivery and I wouldn't use them for anything I intended to eat. If you want bones to make stock then ask specifically for that so they know to give you fresh bones that have not been left lying around etc

Just wanted to add in case you didn't know that you should never cook bones before giving them to the dog - so unless you don't mind boiling them up AFTER the dog's had a chew, I'd suggest separate bones for dogs and for people!
