what do you use it for mainly? as this will matter on what is going to be the best upgrade path.

also what size psu do you have?
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Whats wrong with the PC you are using at the moment, why do you want/need to upgrade.
Do you want an entire new PC, or just to upgrade the one you have (if so.. probably need full specs.. psu, mobo, HDD)

wow 7 years good going... gfx card is release late 2010, cpu apr 2007 & win 7 what mid 2009-2010 and 4gb ram would've been quite a lot in 2005 iir. Hence the 4 specs don't seem that ancient really & seems you have already done the whole "upgrade path"..... but if its 7 years old then of course I can see how might be gathering a bit of dust.

Briefly... the box you have should be fine for browsing internet and most movie watching. Games are a slightly different matter, and really depends what you are playing, how cutting edge they are or that you want the detail to be - you might be able to get away with another GFX card upgrade if possible/the 6800 is sluggish.

I think you would be better of asking.. "I would like a new PC for around £500 - I do this, this and this and I have this monitor at this resolution" and also list a few basic requirements that show you have made a slight effort at thinking about your needs.

Happy to help, but really need more info & read the above nice links first and then hopefully you should have more idea of what you are after/need.

I think it helps to identify the things that are causing you issues and need improving.

If you do go down the new route think about what you want to do with the old one.

My PC is getting on towards 6 years old, and i am also looking at an upgrade, however in the last 12 months i have upgraded the graphics card ( paid £85) and in the last 24 months i alos changed the psu (power suply unit - the bit where the mains lead plus in) to a 570watt one, after a failiure.
I also bought a new monitor after my old one died, which i mamanged to repair for a couple of quid by soldering in new capacitors on the main circuit board in the monitor

looking at it further, ive got the following in good working order:

    PSU
    Case
    Optical drives (DVD R/W)
    Keyboard+ mouse
    graphics card
Retail version of windows 7 that can be transfered to another p.c ( as long as the old one is de-activated/not used)

In all the motherboard, CPU, and Ram are all that i need to update, companys such as Novatech offer barebones systems, Case with a motherboard+Ram+CPu+PSU installed, and just need a hard drive+graphics card and an operating system to work, or theres stuff like motherboard bundles which is a motherboard+CPU+ram all installed, and that just needs going in a case with a PSU+ all the other stuff needed for a barebones kit.

what i would sugest you do is search for barebones PC, and/or motherboard bundle. as you can save money on salvaging bits from your current p.c, the only thing you may need is an operating system, and if your buying the bits you are legible for an OEM copy of windows.
