Hi, myself & my partner are travelling to the USA next month. We have travel insurance in place. I have read through the policy document and it states that it covers you for medical treatment of up to £25.00 per day. Im worried if this cover will be sufficient as I know US medical costs are renowned for being very costly. Im thinking, in the worst case scenario, this amount would not cover a day in a US hospital.
Has anyone had any experience of this ? Im wondering if I should call the insurance company and ask if we can up that part of the policy or if that is indeed possible.(I presume they will probably require an extra payment for the premium)
thank you:)

Which policy do you have? Are you sure you arent looking at the hospital benefit rather than the medical cover?
The hospital benefit is cash they give you if you have to stay in hospital. Medical cover is what they pay the hospitals etc. The only inner limits for Medical cover tends to be about dental or repatriation of your remains if you die0 -

The PO policy for example provides hospital benefit of £25 per day - but also provides medical expenses of £10m. Which insurer provides your cover?angelicmandy wrote: »We have travel insurance in place. Thanks each, yes looking at the policy it says emergency medical and other expenses as £5,000,000 with excess of £100 and hospital benefit is £500 (£25 per day) with a nil excess. Sounds as though i have got the 2 mixed up. As an aside though emergency dental is only £250 which sounds low. Its an AXA policy.
thanks

The emergency dental is intended to deal with something like excruciating toothache. You would see a dentist for emergency treatment to deal with the issue but this might be a temporary fix, with the instruction to visit your own dentist when you get home.
It is not intended to cover things such as a dental implant if you got your tooth knocked out for instance.0
