it will affect your credit rating if they get a CCJ. It'll totally hammer it.

Why would they get a CCJ? I am not saying I can't pay, only that I won't.

A CCJ is only issued in certain circumstances:
    - the judgement must either have been issued in default (i.e a judgment without trial where no defence was entered), or
    - else defended and payment is by instalment order, or
    - where enforcement action is being taken

    (from http://www.trustonline.org.uk/understand-judgments-fines/ccjs-what-are-they)

However, you are able to settle a debt prior to a court hearing.

Or, if you go to court and loose. You are able to pay IMMEDIATELY you won't get a CCJ.

Yes, you can pay after a judgement to avoid the CCJ being recorded BUT - you have just said you WON'T pay.

So, what are you arguing about? You are not going to turn yourself into Kavanagh QC wasting time over £80.

Thank you, that is a helpful response.

However, my debt is not one that can affect your credit rating. Ie not water, council tax etc.

Council tax debt does not normally affect your credit rating anyway. If I were you, I'd stop taking financial advice from yourself until you know what you're doing.

I would never not make a payment on a court order. Not that I would actually allow it to go that far. That would be plain stupid!

Stubborn? This was originally a hypothetical question. I wondered what would happen should I not pay.

As it happens, the agency has just confirmed that they are in error and no money is owed.

    Thanks all!
