Can I get my money back

I booked seats with Easy Jet using my credit card last October, my wife has recently been admitted to hospital and we will not be able to use them. I'd not purchased any travel insurance can I get my money back from the credit card company ?

No, Easyjet have fullfilled their part of the bargain. The seats are available for you to use.

Could you sell them on to anyone.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Thats exactly what travel insurance is for. If you can't use them, you've lost the value of them.

You may be able to sell them at a discount, depending on if the air line allows this and at what cost to change the names/etc.

Just before you ring your insurers consider this - how much did the flights cost? What is your insurance excess? .. and how much will it put up your premiums next year if you claim?

What I am getting at is it worth it?

It always pays to do the same as mufc says, one other thing you can look at is claiming the taxes back on the flights as you are due a refund on these if you don't travel, however some of the cancellation charges on the budget airlines appear spookily similar to the taxes.
