Network Connectivity Conundrum - Macbook + Vigor

Hi All,

I have a very unique problem which I've never seen before and having trouble diagnosing.

There is a Vigor 2800G as the ADSL router and a Macbook running Snow Leopard, and as a 3rd device for testing my Win7 Laptop which works fine.

The issue is, regularly but not consistently, the Macbook will basically lose it's connection without losing the wireless signal, and the only way to repair is to either reconnect to the wireless network, or on the rare occasion restart the Macbook.

When the disconnect has happend, I get the following responses:
Ping to router: Timeout
Ping to google IP: timeout
Ping to Win7 Laptop: RESPONSE

When I'm on my laptop I get:
Ping to router: RESPONSE
Ping to google: RESPONSE
Ping to Macbook: RESPONSE

So the weird thing is, the Macbook can still talk to other local machines through the router but can't talk to the router or to the cloud.

No other machine connected has this problem.

The Macbook can connect to other wireless networks fine without this issue.

Any ideas? :) Someone suggested fragmented TCP packets causing the DOS protection on the Vigor to kick in but would like some other suggestions too :)

Have you tried forgetting the network entirely on the macbook and then adding it again?

Also, does your router have the feature of only allowing certain MAC addresses to connect?

Try setting the Macbook's MAC to a Strict IP Bind in the Vigor and see if that makes any difference.

I did forget the network on the Mac and removed the password from keychain as well, and also tried changing the encryption method + key on the router to rule that out and same thing occurred.

I haven't tried binding a MAC address on the vigour, is that because you think it may be a DHCP conflict? I did try a DHCP refresh while the problem was on-going to see if I could resolve it without reconnecting but that failed.

Yeah I think it's worth a try to bind the MAC address.
