transfering no claims bonus car insurance but keeping car.

Hi,
hope someone can help in my confusion. I have a toyota prius which i have 7 years no claims bonus in (husband is a named driver). I recently bought a toyota verso. I will be the main driver of both cars. My husband is named driver in the prius as he only has provisional licence and can only drive while I am in the car. I got verso coz of expanding family and prius too small for all of us. I tried to insure the verso but it is way too expensive coz I have zero no claims bonus on it.

My question is:can I transfer my 7 years no claims bonus to verso and insure prius from scratch?is NCB transferable like that?the reason I want to transfer it is that the verso has higher value and so much more expensive to insure.

I dont want to sell prius coz I prefer having a smaller car when I am not with whole family. Also, my husband can only drive an automatic (verso is manual). And lastly, hopefully at some point he will get his act together and get a full licence-at that stage prius will be his car. he has a full licence from a non EU country which is not transferable to uk, I am sure if he goes for test he will get it at some point.he has been driving for over ten years.

lastly, any other ideas to reduce insurance in this circumstances(i have read tips on this site and doing all that but having zero NCB on a bigger expensive car killing me)!

thanks for taking time to even read my long winded thread.

You can "transfer" NCD, but unless you do so at renewal date it will be an expensive exercise.

Instead you can swap cars on the current policy (assuming the insurer will cover the new one), and take out a new policy on your old car.

It may be worth asking your current insurer if they do any extra discount of you add a car to your policy (some will give the same NCD on both, others do an extra discount for "multicar" policies.)

    Thanks for reply,
I timed buying the other car to coincide with renewal of my other policy. I am due to renew on 31st May and thats why I am doing research now to know how to approach companies.
    regards.

OK. Then shop around (do virtual quotes) for both cars with and without the NCD and on multicar policies. Also check out cashback offers (2 separate lots of cashback can be a big discount, depending on how competitive the quotes are)

But do sound out your current insurer to see if they will do a deal over NCD/discount for having 2 cars on the same policy.

nothing to add to what Quentin said apart from as you have two policies to renew it might be worth gong to a local broker to see what they can do especially along the lines of getting "mirrored" NCB on the second car

Thank you both for your suggestions. I will do comparisons online then visit a broker to see what deals I can get.
