I would sit down and work out my sums carefully. You won't get 76mpg from the Hyundai, so find out from owners what the real mpg is, work out your mileage then look at depreciation between the two cars.

    1. The Hyundai won't get anywhere near 76mpg in the real world, more like 55-60mpg max, possibly less depending on what kind of driving you do. So your fuel savings are much less than you think. E.g. even doing 20k PA swapping 40mpg for 55mpg will save £1000 PA

    2. You will loose *A LOT MORE* than £1000 in depreciation on a 21 month old Juke. Probably more like £5-6k in total. That's a lot of extra miles

    3. Neither car is particularly "rare" so I wouldn't worry about the effect of depreciation though the Juke will be slightly slower due to it's niche factor.

If you fancy a new car cool, but if you want to try and justify that on grounds of economy/moneysaving then not so good because the figures ultimately won't stack up well.

Your post doesn't say how many miles a year you do or how much money you'd have to put in to the exchange either - both useful bits of info to work out your savings.

The Juke is a better car. Would you be happy driving a shoebox on wheels?

    Agree totally with this.

I think What Car? or someone had a Hyundai diesel and were relatively disappointed with the economy. I'd be plugging 50mpg into the equation, rather than 76mpg and see how the figures stack up then.

Also, as you say the Nissan is probably over the worst of its depreciation curve and should settle down to maybe £1500 a year over the next two years. The Hyundai will probably be looking at £4-5K over the next years.

Finally, the O/P has bought something quite 'funky' with the Juke. The Hyundai is the motoring equivalent of white goods - adequate to get you from a to b but not much fun.

My Volvo claims to do 62mpg, but in reality I'm getting around 48 - there are very few who will get the actual figure from a car.

The i20 is OK, and you will get the benefit of the long warranty (which is only any use if you plan to keep it 5 years) but TBH I cant see you gaining much out of this - I estimate your fuel savings would be around 4 - 500 a year, so it will take you almost 2 years to cover the cost to change
