Additional Credit Card

Just a quick query that somebody might have an answer to..

I wanted to know if it is possible to add another cardholder to my Credit card account but ask the credit card company to only allow them to use a certain amount of my available balance? I am guessing it is not possible but can't find anything that answers my query anywhere else :)

Thanks in Advance....

You can have another cardholder but again depending on the T&C of your credit card provider and no you cannot request the amount that they should spend...you either allow it or your don't. Does it not come down to a question of trust?

I've never known any CC allow you to place a separate limit on an additional cardholder..

Why not get a separate card with a lower limit with them as additional cardholder?

If you don't trust the other cardholder then what would be the point? They could go over the limit and occur fees which the primary holder is liable for.

Agreed, but the card company will usually stop transactions putting the card significantly over the limit, and may allow text updates so that the main cardholder will know immediately if that's happened, so it's a lower risk than giving the additional cardholder free access to a card with a much higher limit.

Presumably some level of trust exists, otherwise the whole thing is a non-starter.

Have a look at the additional cardholder sections on the website of your cc provider. M & S for instance, won't allow other family members as additional cardholders - they will only allow spouses/partners.

As others have said you cannot restrict the limit. However if you have concerns then it's really a non-starter because the end result could be your credit history trashed.
