I *think* its a spyware problem because if I run Ad Aware the computer loads up normally next time. Couple of days later the same thing happens.
I don't think I use any dodgy sites. Don't know if my brother does. (Probably  )
The computer loads up as if it has very little memory. The POST(?) thingie at the beginning is ok. Then as soon as Windows starts up it takes F O R E V E R. Once it has fully loaded, ten minutes later, it goes fine, as if there wasn't a problem in the first place.
Does anyone have any ideas?
(Other than locking my bedroom door)
Cheers xxx

Try installing Spyware Blaster which should prevent the installation of the stuff that Adaware keeps removing !0

Download Bootvis. It's a Microsoft tool that will show you which start-up app/process/service is causing the delay.
Also run Adaware in safe mode.

If you look through the techie faq and the rest of the techie board you will see the same suggestions coming up again and again.
you can also try ms anti-spyware
and ccleaner to get rid of the junk
something I did recently was start to empty my pre-fetch folder regularly which seems to speed start-up0 -
If you get this sort of problem, try disabling System Restore, then running your anti-spyware then re-enabling System Restore.
Doing this will enable your anti-spyware to remove spyware from restore points, which is probably from where the spyware keeps reinstalling itself!0 -
I already have the free version of Spy Blaster but did not realise it doesn't auto update. Have done that now.
I have downloaded Bootvis, hopefully next time it happens, it can tell me whats wrong.
I have now emptied my pre fetch folder.
Cheers everyone, don't know if it will all work. I'll just have to wait and see.0 -
When did you last defragment the disk?
Or totally delete Temporary Internet Files?0
