I don't mind being cut off in the beginning because my profile doesn't fit, but I just had a weird experience with itsyourview. Just worked through 77% of the survey, when they informed me that I didn't answer the questions truthfully and that they would remove my answers and not pay me!   I'm livid!

We will also look at survey response rates and monitor those with high participation levels - they may well reduce (or cut altogether) the amount of invites you receive for surveys if it seems you respond to every invite straight away. We expect panel members to have better things to do!

Thanks for the post - helpful to know. I don't really mind now that Ciao seemed to have stopped sending me useless surveys that were long but never paid.

However - I often answer surveys when I receive them- simply because I check emails regularly - guess I'm proper sad then!!:D

Email them, complaining - if you were being false you obviously wouldn't be bothered - I've complained about a few surveys recently, and while I didn't get paid, I have got a response which makes me feel better!

How annoying - they're long ones as well.

    Hiya
I had signed up to lots of the survey companies but the only ones I use now are ciao, test and vote and yougov as they pay up when they say they will and I get plenty of surveys. I agree that sometimes I don't 'meet the criteria' but as i'm usually in a rush I see that as a bonus as it won't take so long. Since I changed my attitude it either happens less or just doesn't bother me now. No idea if that makes sense so i'll just go quietly!

Ciao did this to me loads so I've ditched them now.

You Gov never do this. They don't send me many surveys and some of them are boring as hell to fill in, but they always pay you (a pittance but at least it's reliable).

Completely agree with the above quote. I was so annoyed with Ciao as they deleted my account because I hadn't logged in for a set amount of days and I lost 8 quid in credit!

You Gov are good, fairly regular survey invites and I've earned over 30 pounds through them so far. I also like Lightspeed as get regular invites from them. I did have one problem with not getting a voucher from Lightspeed, but it was sorted out quickly and I got my voucher after one email to them.

    YouGov, can't fault them really.

Ciao - I don't even bother with them now when I get their invitations (in fact should really opt out...) as I never "fit". Which is fair enough. But when you've already spent several minutes answering questions then get booted out, it makes you want to scream. I think they are diddling us when they do that.

Many thanks randomtask for your explanation.

I've signed up with three survey companies - YouGov, TNS and Lightspeed. I haven't had a "payout" yet, but I'm just biding my time. :D

I like YouGov because they evidently only send you the surveys that they think ARE relevant to you. Even if you don't meet the criteria for that particular survey, then they still add the 50p or whatever to your account.

I had a long 45 min survey the other day from Lightspeed. I found it SO tedious and it crashed/my computer crashed half way through......

However, I have had exciting ones like doing two parts of a chocolate survey on a new bar of choccy. :D I had to do a taste test on that one.

I'm currently two months into a 6 month Cosmopolitan magazine survey via one of the above (can't remember which one, but it's not YouGov) where I get free copies of Cosmo for 6 months. :j :j Obviously, I've got to answer the surveys when they ask me my opinion on the magazine, but I can cope - especially this month because there's a pic of James Martin protecting his modesty. :D

Yes, it is quite annoying when you don't qualify for some surveys, but such is life.

I've started a rather tongue in cheek blog on the whole paid online surveys thing because I want to find out if you can really make money (it's my homepage, left click on user name etc etc- shameless advertising but I like the traffic). I signed up for about 70 and get 5-10 a day for which I qulaify for about 50%. I just got my first payment (a fiver) from Lightspeed, very promptly which I was surprised at since I had heard bad things, but they done good, son, they done good.

Ciao are really annoying me as I hardly ever qualify and they do let me get a long way through before telling me I'm not their type. YouGov as has been said have a high payout threshold of £50 (they can't afford to make it lower) but have interesting surveys (apart from the Brand Index ones). On one I did try to force my way a little through it - I won't try that again - for one it's dull because you're not interested in what they're asking, and for two, it's obvious when you can't remember what you're answers were and they ask the same question again. I was booted out, and I felt shame.:o

My top tips for starters are here at this thread (but I think you're all quite highly seasoned with salt and pepper so they won't be of much interest):
