Hi

Which is the best and cheapest way to do this?

I have recently bought a 6 mths old car and it has a bit of tar on the underside and the odd light scratch ie around the drivers door from keys etc.

It`s a silver metalic colour.

Yes I am female, but hubbie didn`t know- he never even washers his car- so doesn`t get to see scratches etc

Thank you

week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.54

You can get a bug and tar remover from halfords. Can't remember who makes it, but I have used it, and it's very good. You have to scrub a bit, and it takes a while, but it gets it off.

For the scratches, it depends how deep they are. If you can 'catch' your fingernail in them, then they won't come out with a polish, and will need someone like chipsaway to sort them I expect.
If they are only very light scratches though, tey something like AutoGlym Paint Renovator or Meguiars Scratch X.

Petrol. Rub it with a small amount of petrol on a rag, and wash it afterwards.

I've got some tar remover from Autoglym that's worked fine for me for the past eight or nine years. Probably a rather nasty solvent but it works fine and may even be slightly less harmful than petrol.

As to the scratches, I'd try some good polish/wax before I'd use paint renovator or scratch X as they are a lot more abrasive than polish.

Paraffin Will remove tar,it will also remove spilled oil and you can buy it from Your local garage in a 5 litre can,its dead cheap compared to things like GUNK, i always keep some in my garage.

As for scratch remover the ones mentioned will work, another good one is QUIXX.I was cleaning my Mx5 (silver metallic) and there were a few minor scratches on one wing,i removed them using metallic T CUT,i have used it loads of times ,with good results, regardless of the fact that some think it is too abrasive,it works fine if used as directed and again is beter value than some so called "miracle scratch removers",some of these even claim to draw up the paint to cover any scratch!!!
