I tried to use my card this morning & it was refused.

I have no idea why so I went to the branch in town as I was nearby & the cashier siad she had no idea why. Didn't see anything on their system. Advised I called them.

So I called them & answered the security questions OK till she asked me "of any transactions in the last 7 days. Heck I can't remember!!! So I guessed YES cos I'm in the middle of a house renovations & thought I must have been somewhere! Then checked my calendar & I have definately haven't been anywhere to use it.

Failed the Q's & told to go to my Santander branch with my card & photo ID then call them back.

I shall do this tomorrow. Now my card is still blocked. I got my statement this morning & it shwos no unauthorised transactions on that but I have been using it more than usual on housey stuff. I usually pay it back in one go. But There was also a £12 late fee cos I totally forgot to pay it. Doh I know & I'm not in the habit of doing that cos I do have an excellent cradit rating accorting to Mr Mortgage at Lloyds TSB!!!

Why haven't they rung me if they believe there is any odd goings on my card cos they did last year when I tried to buy mobile top up with it 3 times & the Voda website didn't like my card at the time.

I'm worried!

    Hello!
Years back (5 or 6 I guess?) I went to pay for something using my Capital One credit card and it was refused- like wise, I couldn’t understand why- I was within my credit limit, payments always made on time, etc...

It turns out- a few weeks earlier I had stayed in a hotel- when I signed in the hotel swiped my credit card but didn’t actually take payment- when I left the hotel I paid the bill in cash.

It turns out when the hotel swiped my card they didn’t take payment but they ‘reserved’ a certain amount on my card- so if I did a runner from the hotel without paying then they could get their money from my card, however as I paid in cash- they forgot to reverse this ‘reserved’ amount- and hence I was going over my limit when I tried to buy something and hence why the payment wouldn’t go through....

The credit card company couldn’t do anything- I had to ring the hotel directly and they had to reverse the ‘reserved’ amount on my card.

Could this be possible ?? Could a company have 'reserved' an anmount on your card ??
