Probably best to go looking on the outskirts for a less established course. Are there not a few out Gilnahik direction? Maybe even blackwood near newtownards.
Just remember that if it fits your criteria, the course is unlikely to be in fantastic condition and it is highly likely to be very busy and very slow... If you are interested in the longer term, definitely try to get into a more established club.2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
Cliftonville is about £450 a year but no join up fee. It's a 9 hole course however. If you happen to have anything to do with QUB I think there's a 'back door' to regularly play Malone if you are a member of another club - I'm not too sure of the details.Stercus accidit0

Regularly would require you to have a flexible schedule. As a member at Malone I can tell you that there are not too many non-members about at weekends. The traditional approach with QUB would have been to play on a wednesday afternoon.2 + 2 = 4

So if you work there that shouldn't be a problem.

try castlereagh hills GC (formerly gilnahirk) it's maybe open a year or two after being redesigned, it's cheap but because it's a municipal course the dress restrictions etc aren't the same as private clubs (i.e. in summer you get the steeks playing barechested with their kappa trackie bottoms on!)0

Think of trying Mount Ober? Heard they were looking for members and were offering reduced rates.0

There's a club called Silverwood near Lurgan which is a parkland 18 hole course - it's more of a golf centre than a club - and it's £390 a year. It's supposed to be reasonably good. It's not Belfast I know but if you are close to the motorway it's 15 - 20 mins.Stercus accidit0

That was the place I was thinking of - it isnt the worst place in the world but does start to resemble a mud pit when the rains come down....2 + 2 = 4

I work in Castlereagh Hills GC. When it opened in July 2005 the dress code was a bit lax. Now there is a strict dress code. Golfers must adhere to standard ??? (can't remember) rules. No football tops, no shorts, proper shoes etc. There is a big board with the dress code on it just as you go through the door.
One added benefit of membership is you get a reduced membership at all the council fitness centres.0
