Waterproof Paint for Bricks

We live in a 9" solid brick house, and it seems the bricks seem to be letting damp through (condensation could also be causing problems, but I'm pretty sure it's penetrative damp).
Anyhoo, other than getting the house rendered, which is likely to be costly. I was thinking of getting some waterproof paint to cover the bricks, to try and prevent this.
I'm gonna do a tester on one section of wall, before looking to do all external walls.
Can anyone recomend any one brand / type over the others?
(I'd ideally prefer not to alter the appearance of the bricks if at all possible)
Also the cheapest place to get it would also help

You can get a clear waterproof solution to paint on the outside bricks or render.
Any good builders merchant will stock it and there are a few makes.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Can anyone suggest any particular brands / types over others?
Has anyone had an experience in using products like this?
I'd ideally like whatver I use to soak into the bricks, rather than coat them and change the appearance.0 -
