Hi all, hoping for a little help with a laptop. For the past week each day its started up both the time and date come on at 10.30am and the date is always june 3rd 2008! (the year it was bought) I then have to change both to todays time and date, not a major problem I know but very annoying all the same.
I cant think of anything i have done to cause this but I do notice when im changing the date/time although it allows me to change it and push the OK button the APPLY button is greyed out and I cant push it,any help would be very welcome thanks.

The battery within the laptop that keeps the bios settings is probably nearly flat. (not the main battery). The bios settings and time will reset every time you unplug it from the mains.0

if it's on the net, set it to sync at boot using the time service, see the clock settings

or use 3rd party applications to do the same thing

As sk240 says, change the bios battery. If you post yr make/model we may be able to tell you the type and where to find it.0

Incidentally, the battery itself is a common CR2032 lithium cell. They're often sold in packs of two for some reason.0

If you are very lucky it may be a CR2032, but not on many laptops - I have changed a few and they can be odd sizes, in inaccessible places, and sometimes even soldered onto the board.
We need to know what model this is ?0 -

I think Tanglefoot is almost right - it is a cr2032, but soldered onto a pair of wires, like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Cmos-Battery-CR2032-PANASONIC-Compaq-Armada-1700-1750-2-PIN-CONNECTOR-/230783277957?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopsAccessories_LaptopBatteries&hash=item35bbc15b85
I believe it may be found under the top panel, bottom right; probably need to take the keyboard and top plastic assembly off.0
