Never been before, but we are going end of June for a weekend.
I have had a look on the Southport website and found a few interesting places, but not many!
Looking for general family things to do, son 8, daughter 3. Places to eat, things to do etc.
Thanks.

Southport is lovely, maybe a little too sedate for kids, but you should find some places to go.
Eating out.... There is a chippy called the swan at the back of the Bold hotel, fantastic proper old style restaurant. Just down from there is a lovely Greek restaurant. Loads of corporate co's too.
entertanment.... Usual lazer /bowling centres, have marine lake to hire boats on. Very old funfair, Great swimming complex, Pontins at ainsdale, I think do day passes.
Go into Liverpool for the day, only about 1/2 hour away by train. Albert dock,Liverpool 1 Shopping great, Beatles story,Ferry cross the mersey, museums art galleries etc.
You are central to a lot of things in Southport, you will find plenty to do.
If I have the 'blues' some days, I get in the car and go to Southport. Never come away down in the dumps after a brisk walk around. It is lovely0 -
Theres 2 nice parks Botanic Gardens or Hesketh Park. A trip down the pier is nice in good weather, the very modern building at the end is full of Victorian Penny slot machines. Playtown on Ocean Plaza is very useful for keeping LO amused on rainy days. Out to Formby either by car or by train to see the red squirrels at Formby Point is something my LO adores doing. Splashworld is a fun complex. TBH its not the most exciting town in England, but there should be enough to keep you amused for a weekend and as the previous poster said Liverpool is 1/2-3/4 hour on the train :-)
Nearly forgot, theres loads and loads of places to eat out, good one for the kids is the Brewers Fayre called the Ocean Plaza on Ocean Plaza as it has a small indoor play area.Sorting my life out one day at a time0 -
Southport's nice enough for the day, but you might struggle for a whole weekend if you have no transport. However, you could visit Formby squirrel reserve, Crosby beach, Farmer Teds play barn, and Liverpool if you have transport.0

If you are staying at Pontins or going that way the beach across the road (ainsdale) has a nature reserve next to it for a nice little walk to the beach. The pub sells packets of food for feeding the swans.
We went to the model village when we visited Southport. It's an odd thing to do I suppose, but my children loved it.52% tight0
