HSBC U-Turn on restricted conveyancing panel

Does anybody have any news about HSBC u-turn?
I've applied for a mortgage quotation today, which is only 2 weeks away from August and they still insist on this rule of the solicitor being one of their own and on paying the £192.
For me it's not even the problem of the money, but the fact that my trusted solicitor won't act on my behalf if I choose HSBC because he said the procedure is extremely slow.0 -

Unfortunately I can't, the vendor is getting really annoyed and not willing to wait any longer.
I can't believe I'm the only one in this situation and I can't believe that HSBC mortgage people don't know anything about this change. It's even on their website!

If your seller won't wait then you will have to carry on regardless. Find a solicitor who is on the panel (not CW).
ETA: another member posted that they've been told that the expansion of HSBC's panel of lenders is to take place on 31st August, so you're nowhere near coming within that date if it's true.0
