Using "wholesale deals" to make money

Hi, I am looking for a wholesale warehouse is Leicester or Midlands to buy a couple of pallets of stock to resell. Hopefully a trade account is possible as I have a small shop that I have just opened. (I'm all legit on ebay, registered as a business seller, registered as self employed with HMRC etc).

However while googling this, I came across a "wholesale deals" website. Just wondered if anyone uses this and if it is worth paying the joining fee to buy stuff?

Thanks

If you are buying pallets make sure you know exactly what is on them before spending any cash. As I said though, best to steer clear until you know what you are doing.

Thanks guys. I have just found one that does not have a website. Someone who came in my shop told me about it. I will buy a trader magazine. I am appearing a bit green on here so you may think I'm a bit silly (which I understand).

The background is my Hubby has a successful shop and is self employed. I'm employed but want to eventually go completely self employed, so he has converted the garage and I've set up a small shop in there for me. I listed quite a bit of stock on ebay and it is selling well, but thought I'd give it a boost by buying some more stuff that it is a bit more generic.

If you are in the East Midlands, then be cautious about using Marthill. It's a great place to buy pallets of damaged or faulty stock...

I know someone that bought a pallet of returned electricals and found two chip fryers still full of lard!!

Also be wary of the alleged RRP on the items - it is nearly always the original price, rather than the current price. As the stock is quite old, you will find it is sold online at pretty much the same price as you would pay for it from these pallet clearance places.

Very few auction houses have websites, or at least websites with accurate inventory listings, but have a look at https://www.charlestaylor.co.uk in Salford or http://www.auction.u-net.com/ in Wandsworth. Be prepared for some hostile bidding, and also bear in mind that most sold lots end up on market stalls, so no ebay fees or P&P to factor in to the price.

Pallets of unknown stuff is risky, Mate tried that with pallets of ex argos stuff.

Depends what you know and what talents you have.

If you cant use a soldering iron then avoid electricals etc.

My mate didnt make a profit. Lots of the stuff was junk.

Thanks everyone. It's not unknown stuff I was thinking of buying. I was just referring to pallets to describe the scale of the size I was looking at. I have been to the warehouse someone told me about and found some bargains. Nothing I could sell on ebay though, the postage and fees doesn't make it worth it, but the stuff was ok mark up to stand at the local car boot on Sunday. Going back on Friday with Hubby's van, ready for Sunday.
