Does anyone know wether a number plate that is on a 50's motorised bicycle is transferable? its a 123 ABC style plate and there are papers with the bike but i dont know if the plate has already been transfered in the past.

Do you have the V5 (log book) for the bike?0

The bikes on eBay so I can't see the log book yet, I don't want to alert the seller in case the plate is worth a few quid and the auction ends in a couple hours. I know sometimes it will say not transferable on the book but even if it didn't would it still be a valid plate since its coming off what amounts to a push bike with an engine.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

It might not have a V5c at that age, in fact if it still has the original buff log book then that adds to the value of the bike and you are better off simply applying for a V5c seperately and keeping the buff one for future re-sale.
Not that any of that helps with the plate question I'm afraid!
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
If its a vehicle reg it should be useable on any vehicle. If the original number has been sold it will have been replaced with a similar, age related number which is non transferable. You could ask the owner if the logbook is avaliable and if the number is original
"The vehicle is subject to MOT or HGV testing. Not all vehicles are required to undergo an annual test for roadworthiness, for example agricultural vehicles, steamrollers and milk floats. Consequently, such vehicles do not qualify for the transfer or retention scheme. Refer to the vehicle’s registration document to verify."
A motorised bicycle is a motor bike and I expect it needs an MOT.0 -
This had me thinking. I wonder if it would be worth it buying an old Moped or bike like this with a dateless plate on. Then transferring it to my car. Then once the bike has it's replacement plate I can just sell the bike on again. Would be hopefully a lot cheaper than just buying a dateless plate from one of the plate sites.
I'm aware that I would have to find a bike that hasn't had it's plate transferred before.

yes it might, but be aware that you will be up against all the other hundreds of people trying to do the same thing; where do you think most of the older 'cherished numbers' come from? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
