Pre Booking Flight Seats

I'm travelling with First Choice in August, I received a call asking if I wanted to pre book seats for my wife, I and my 4 year old, I said no and they said they can only guarantee that one of us will be seated with our child without pre booking.
I always check in early as possible is it worth risk waiting until check in or should I pre-book?

The problem is on the way home, unless your making your own way to the airport for your flight home if your on the first choice transfer coach you maybe last to get to the airport and be at the back of the queue.
It also depends how many people on your plane have already booked seats together.0 -
Most of their seating plans are automated so groups/families are automatically sat together regardless of pre booking.
They just love to ruin your holiday before its even started with these scare tactics0 -

Not always a bad thing... we were at the back of the queue after a quick fag and we were allocated seats 1A, 1B & 1C! We couldn't believe our luck! All that extra legroom (I could stretch my legs straight out and still not touch the wall in front!)
I've never paid to sit together and have always been sat with my family. Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -

Ditto. Always been automatically seated with kids.
Now if they offered being able to book NOT sitting next to my kids that would be worth something! don't mind who they sit with but they must like chatting non stop and playing Nintendo DS - oh and answering the question 'how much longer?' every 8 minutes.0 -
Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. I was really annoyed with the call as it was a real scare tactic, nearly worked too. I'm 90% leaning towards taking my chances, the 10% is a worry as it's our first family holiday and we'd be pretty disapointed to be apart for a 4 hour flight.0

a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -
i agree its a rip off but i always prebook and choose seats for peace of mind, after we were once allocated the worst seats on the plane right next to the toilet door!0

That happened to us too. An inch less legroom, no reclining seat, a constant queue of weak bladdered women hopping from one foot to the other in the aisle for five hours.
But at least we were together.

yep and not to mention the stench every time the toilet door opened!!0 -
Yes, and even if you aren't say together (very unlikely with a 4 year old) someone will probably offer to move. And if they don't you can use the old "now then Johnny - if you're sick make sure you get it all into the bag this time, and don't spend the entire flight screaming like you did last time" tactic. That'll get you a volunteer pretty quick :rotfl:budgetflyer wrote: »Most of their seating plans are automated so groups/families are automatically sat together regardless of pre booking.
