Employer as a sponsor

Hi Not sure if this is in the right place but maybe someone here can help.

Back in 2004 I went on a part time evening course which my employer sponsored me for(they gave the uni a letter confirming they would pay the fees). Several months after the course I resigned and went to work elsewhere.

Come to today and I receive a demand as the fees have not been paid and my old employer says they are not paying them and the uni said they are not going to chase them anymore so it is now my debt.

Is this right that an employer can sponsor you but you could still be liable to pay?

Thanks

Do you have any paperwork regarding the payment of the fees, in particular anything that covers the situation where your employer is the sponsor? It may be that the liability is ultimately yours, but it certainly seems very unfair.

If you can't get any further help here, I am back in uni on Monday and will see what I can find out there x

Bad news I'm afraid. Just had a look on my uni website, and it states the following:
We will invoice your sponsor accordingly, however, please be aware that you are personally liable for any unpaid fees.

If you can tell me what uni it was (PM me if you don't want to put it on here), and I'll see what I can find out x

It depends on the agrement with your employer. With mine I had to agree to repay fees (on a sliding scale) if I resigned within 2 years

If you did not have such an agreement with your employer then you may be able to sue them, however in the meantime the fees still need to be paid to the university, and the OP is still personally liable.
