Anybody familiar with Protaras/Pernera area?

Hi there

Just looking for a bit of area knowledge please. I am going to a wedding at Capo Bay Hotel in Protaras in July. I am looking for a hotel or apartments not TOO far away.

I know a few of the hotels in the immediate area, but I wouldn't mind staying a 15 minute or so taxi ride away.

I have seen a couple of hotels in Pernera but really have no idea if this is anywhere near Protaras - is it??

i stayed outskirts of ayai napa a few years ago (grecian sands), we hired a car and went to protaras which isnt too far away from were we stayed by car.cant answer were pernera is but maybe have a look on google earth. we found taxis quite expensive.

I stayed at Penera Beach Hotel in Protaras and it was lovely, no complaints at all.

Pernera is no more than 10 minutes in a taxi and about 2 miles from Protaras, we were charged 6 Euros each way in a taxi.

We stayed in Pernera in September last year for a wedding in Protaras. During the daytime I preferred Pernera but it lacked any sort of atmosphere at night, but please consider the time of year we went.

What to say about Pernera:-

• Has a lovely sandy beach, on a bay , with still calm waters , but no more than a 1/4 mile long. It was quite busy in September so I'd imagine it could be very busy in July.
• There is a pedestrianised walkway where you can walk hassle free from the beach in Pernera straight into Protaras. We did it a few times each week, takes about 30 minutes. There are a few bars scattered along the route where it was lovely to sit and watch the sun go down over the sea.
• There are about 15 bars/pubs, similar number of restaurants, a few small supermarkets and around 30 everyday shops.
• It is quiet compared to Protaras and the main road skirts around half of the shops/restaurants leaving the other half almost traffic/noise free. The main road also stays away from the beach area. As you are aware, a busy road goes through the bars/restaurants in Protaras and can become a pest as it is quite narrow and can lack relaxtion walking amongst them.
• I guess it depends on you age. If you want nightlife then you'll find yourself spending a fortune on taxis to Protaras. We are in our forties and whilst we found the bars to be quiet around Pernera,I'd still rather stay there and take the odd night out in Protaras.
• There are a few hotels of which 2 or 3 looked nice . We stayed in a small villa with a small pool on a 'Wimpey like' estate, 5 minutes walk from the beach. It was modern, nice, clean, very comfortable, just lacked any sort of view.
