Any help would be appreciated with my PPI

I am hoping someone on here can help. Approx 20 years ago my home was nearly repossessed due to Chelsea Building Society mis-selling me a PPI policy linked to my mortgage. At the time I was self employed and CBS insisted I had a PPI in place or they would not give me a Mortgage. Approx 1 year into the term work dried up and I signed on, I made my claim to CBS but it was turned down because as they said "I was claiming benefit from the wrong government office". After a short time I got into arrears. At this time CBS instigated repossession proceedings against my home, and I was summoned to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. I walked through the Courts Archway with some trepidation, knowing in about an hour I would be homeless as well as out of work. I sat down in the chamber with the Judge and CBS legal representative and remember feeling totally out of my depth and hoping for a quick ending. Now fortunately for me the Judge didn't agree with the way I had been treated and found CBS totally responsible for the situation and they could no longer use the legal system to resolve this case, infact he was very disturbed in the way CBS had acted and told them to get it sorted asap, so I ended up keeping my home.
Recently I wrote to CBS and asked them to refund my PPI charges and compensate accordingly in line with the current legal regulations; I received a response saying "to long ago, no records". But they will consider any information I can forward.
Has anyone out there been through this sort of Claim, does anyone know how to get copies of old court records, has anyone got any ideas how I can take this further. Any help would be appreciated. At the end of the day I nearly lost my home, and never even received an apology.

I'd say if you have any records or can get them you may be in with a shot otherwise I don't think it'll be a goer personally.Defaultless as of 12th Sept 2012BugsyBrowne wrote: »Listen here default Dave why don't you take your bullsh*t and stick it up your defaulted ar*e and then stick your defaulted credit report and stick it in your defaulted gob.0

Knoxvillain makes valid points but in addition, Yorkshire Building Society, which would now have to respond to any complaint against Chelsea, would be entitled to timebar a complaint about a policy which you knew you had cause to complain about 20 years ago.0

Its not unreasonable for a lender have destroyed records after 20 years. Without proof of what was paid towards the insurance you have no chance because there is no way of finding out what happened. However if you can dig out your old bank statements from your attic or if you can find paperwork showing you made the payments towards the insurance you can present them to the business, to see what they say. Some PPI policies were unsuitable for someone who is self-employed, leaving people in real trouble when they should have been ''protected''.
The building society would have been covered by insurance regulations at the time of the sale, so the FOS may be able to consider your complaint if you can find your own records.
It is for the FOS to decide if a complaint can be time barred by their service, not for someone on an internet forum.0 -
all comments appreciated thankyou, my only other choice would be to find out if court records are available, does anyone know how i could go about finding out, i can't find out anything online!!!0

The forum is for guidance only and most of us are posting only from our own limited experience. However, some of the posters here work in a financial environment that leaves them far better placed to advise on likely outcomes.0 -
