Cannot login to ebay

I have been trying all day without any success, the page just hangs when I try to login, I have reonfigured my firewall and all the security settings in IE and still cannot get in, I even opted to disable everything and it still makes no difference.

I asked my sister to login on her PC and she logged in without any problems, what annoys me is that I logged in at 3am this morning no problem, but since 10am I am getting nowhere, I resorted to doing a complete reinstall of XP out of desperation and the problem continues.

Can anyone shed any light on what is going wrong?

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.
  • I had the same problem last year, along with not being able to log onto any of my secure sites such as online banking sites. It turned out to be a virus in Internet Explorer. I tried Mozilla Firefox and it solved the problem straight away.

I have discovered that the problem is being caused by my ISP, I have been tearing my hair out checking settings, reinstalled my PC twice I finally after some high brow testing established that the problem without a doubt was that VirginMedia was blocking access to the port that is used for communicating with secure webites.

What irks me is that after numerous calls to them and being told each time it must be a fault at my end it transpires it was a fault at their end and I had to tell them what the problem with their network was before they were willing to go and investigate and confirm it was their fault.

It's been 2 days they still haven't fixed the problem.

Sorry for this being in the ebay section, I had no idea how serious the problem was when I first posted and was trying to establish if other ebay users had the same problem accessing the site.

    I'll say no more.

Presuming you are with VirginMedia you will just have to grin and bear it, for some reason their system is blocking the port that secure transactions require to connect to, it has been three days and they haven't fixed the problem, there is absolutely no way you will get access to most websites that require a secure connection, SSL 128bit, unless you use a computer on a different ISP, phoning and complaining is useless, apparently all of their customers in Scotland are affected.

I can't acess eBay, I can't access email to see if I have sold anthing or answer any customer questions and I can't even check my recorded delivery slips on the Roal mail website for some reason

have posted on the internet access techie thread about this, included the link you posted John_T to warn others. Will be calling them later and asking for refund of some of my broadband fees as we have had this problem on and off for a few days.
