Nationwide withdrawal charges

Nationwide now want to charge me £10 to make withdrawals from my instant access savings by cheque to a specified payee such as a holiday company, for instance. I wish to close the account as I feel the rule is unfair. Which accounts do NOT charge for this type of withdrawal?

Why is it unfair? There are plenty of free methods of withdrawing money. For example, electronic transfer to your current account and then write a personal cheque.
Even if you switch to a different savings account that doesn't charge a fee for a building society cheque, the chances are it will soon and you'll be back to square one.0 -
Luckily for you it is 2012 and we do not need to issue to cheques to pay people anymore so you do not need to worry about £10 as you don't need to write out a cheque.
-Electronic transfer using online banking
-Transfer money to your current account and then write a cheque out yourself
-Transfer the money to your current account and then pay with your card.
It seems that it is unfair NOT to use any of these free options and complain about something that is not even an issue.0 -
Why are you shouting?
Halifax still do free counter cheques for savings customers.
I prefer the electronic methods suggested by others though.0 -

"Withdrawal by bankers draft
You cannot withdraw any amount less than £500 from your savings account by banker’s draft."

Nationwide BS does not charge for cheques payable to oneself or for sums over £1000.
