Can Barratt cut down protected trees?

Has anyone got the number for that man - what was his name - he used to protest in trees?!
Have contacted local Wildlife organisation, thanks for all the great ideas on here, it really helps! There are two beautiful birds circling around the carnage, they look like falcons and I have just seen the tree where their nest was has gone. Since there is not a lot else I can do I really hope birds are able to build a new nest in cases like this.0 -

Think his name was Swampy!!
If Barrett Homes HAVE cut down a tree with nesting falcons, and they're rare ones, then they'll be in DEEP doo-doo. Some birds of prey are protected by The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which makes it an offence to kill, injure or take a protected bird, or to take, damage or destroy an active nest or its contents.
Alas, if there were eggs in the nest then they are highly unlikely to survive.0 -
I've been passed onto the local environment policeman by the local wildlife centre who were extremely interested to hear about this. Apparently you can't even trim a hedge during spring.
There are still two massive birds flying around, I can't work out what they are but they're not your usual garden birds, and they look distressed.0 -

Talking of which we had loads of tits in our garden, which I've just realised have all disappeared since this morning when the massacre of their home took place.
I've spoken to the some of the residents and we're thinking of pulling down our old sheds at the bottom of the gardens and planting new trees to provide some homes for these animals and birds.0 -

I read that you'd spoken to some of the residents and we're thinking of pulling down our.......and thought you had organised a mass moonie with pics of trees and tits on your bum cheeks.
My mind seems to be in the gutter today.0 -
No they shouldn't if they are protected, and they will be subject to fines for doing so. However, they know that and will have built those fines into the cost of the build. They all do it.0

You *can* lie in front of the diggers, get a few of you together, and get reading on how to organise a tree protest. The b?ggers will try to lie and bully you away but their options are limited. At least you can make it a horrible job for them to do so, make it really expensive, and get it out in the press everywhere. Also contact your local hunt sabs, animal rights groups, RSPCA, RSPB, you'll want all the allies you can get, and you'll be surprised who will come out with you if you take a stand.
Indymedia.org.uk will be a good place to post your opposition. Stand, fight, don't let them get away with it, or at least not without a huge fight
http://www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au/Do-it-Yourself+Democracy/Finding+the+people/Join+or+organise+a+protest/ some starting points here - basically get the word out, get some decent fliers together, be organised and loud.

Planning laws in the UK are an. The only way we can stop developers from concreting over us, is to protect trees.
Living on a new site, ten year old, we had tree preservation on our land.
To me it would be better to design sites better, replace dead wood and plant new trees in areas that are of benefit to all. We too long have had planners and nimby's at odds.I hvae nt snept th lst fw mntes writg ths post fr yu t cme alng hre nd agre wth m!
