Alternatively, look Under the Bonnet for Content Settings. ;)
When did Google add it as when I first installed Chrome you could only do it manually.

That click to play stuff only turned up a few weeks ago. Dunno about the rest.

Well after all of your advice, I am now running with these plugins:
    • Abine TACO
    • Adblock Plus (Beta)
    • Better JTV
    • BuiltWith Technology Profiler
    • RSS Subscription Extension (by Google)
    • Speed Dial 2
    • Turn Off The Lights
    • Web Developer
    • WOT

Now I'm just looking to make my chrome seem a little better looking, without going over the top. Suggestions? :D

No themes on Windows - I just use Aero. :)

That functionality is built-in too. Doesn't appear to affect external applications though.

And it appears that the latest update has altered the layout of the Settings page too... so you'll have to substitute Under the Bonnet with +Show advanced settings from now on.

having just been prompted that my quicktime plugin was out of date, I remembered this post and thought I would take a look

For me, I think the question should be in two parts

    Which plugins do I have ? and which do I need/use ?

and I'm confused as to what is a plugin ?
i.e if I go to extensions I just have Adblock Plus which many on here have

but if I go to chrome://plugins I have 22 , list as follows

    Remoting Viewer : internal-remoting-viewer

    Name: Native Client
    Location: C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\18.0.1025.168\ppGoogleNaClPluginChrome.dll

    Flash (3 files) - Version: 11,2,202,233
    Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

    Adobe Acrobat - Version: 10.1.3.23
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.3

    Coupons Inc., Coupon Printer Manager (2 files) - Version: 4, 0,1, 3

Windows Media Player - Version: 1.0.0.8

    E-centives Coupon Activator Netscape Plugin v. 3.0.8.0 -

    Java (2 files) - Version: 6.0.310.5

    RealPlayer (3 files) - Version: 15.0.0.198

    QuickTime (7 files) - Version: 7.6.8 (1675)

RealJukebox NS Plugin - Version: 15.0.0.198

    getPlusPlus for Adobe 16291 - Version: 1,6,2,91

    RealNetworks(tm) Chrome Background Extension Plug-In (32-bit) - Version: 15.0.0.198

    Google Updater - Version: 2.4.2432.1652.beta

    Google Update - Version: 1.3.21.111

RealNetworks Rhapsody Player Engine - Version: 1.0.2.603

    MetaStream 3 Plugin - Version: 3, 2, 2, 26

iTunes Application Detector - Version: 1.0.1.

Windows Presentation Foundation - Version: 3.5.30729.1 built by: SP (this says it is for a Mozilla browser !)

    Shockwave - Version: 11.6.4r634

    Silverlight - Version: 4.1.10111.0

Which of the above I need I have no idea. Comments welcome ..

Technically the things we've been talking about are extensions, though the terms are often used interchangeably.

    My plug-ins:
    • Remoting Viewer
    • Native Client
    • Chrome PDF Viewer
    • Flash (2 files)
    • Adobe Acrobat (Disabled)
    • Java
    • Google Update

The fewer the better is my motto. I've put my opinion in capitals in the quote. In my experience you will soon get told if you need any of the others when a page doesn't work properly, then you simply re-enable the one you need.
I don't see the Chrome PDF viewer. It should be there somewhere. Keep that one too.

Note: the 'x files' displayed after several entries indicates that several - possibly outdated - versions are present. Aside from the 2 Flash versions Chrome uses internally there should be just the one entry per plug-in.

It appears you have some uninstalling to do. ;)

It can be done with themes and there are lots to choose from..

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/themes?hl=en-GB

..but for me, it's the light blue theme shown in the page linked to below that gives Chrome the nicest look. The Title Bar can be blue or not depending on whether the Aero or Basic theme is chosen. Don't use it if you feel unsure about downloading from a site other than the Chrome Web Store. I can only say that I've been using the theme for more than a year now and all is well.
