Anybody else "not getting" matched betting?

to put it very quickly ..one person came on with a new idea of making money asking for advice ...others thought it was a great idea ...loads of people jumped on the bandwagon and loads of people lost money ...it happened on a sunday and the forum regulators cant be on24/7 to warn people byt the time they got there it was too late ...people thought they would make a fast buck mbing doesnt work like that and thats why you cant rush in but take your time and make sure your doing it right

I don't get it either and I have tried and tried and tried again, maybe I'll have another look on monday as I've booked the whole day off!!!

I think I get it now. I was getting confused with the 2nd bit about the free bet. But its the same principles!! Instead of just covering your losses on making the bet though, the free bet is where you make the money!!

How do you qualify for free bets??

Just to say that we cannot put enough emphasis on the "do not rush into this until you understand it" stuff.

Although matched betting is lowish risk, the greatest element of risk is down to human error (our own). This can happen because:

- we don't fully "get it"
- we are tired and not concentrating
- we are rushing to try and get the next bet in before kick off
- we are trying to be clever

etc etc.

The free offers which allow you to make the money will still be there tomorrow, next week, next month etc. So don't rush, take your time, ask questions on the newbie board on the gambling thread and please don't do it until you are ready.

When you are ready, you will enjoy. We look forward to seeing you over on the other board very soon x

I joined Betfair a month or so ago and on my first night posted a question in the newbies thread and theysaid I had a great offer so I took it. I di't win much, but didn't lose much either so was ok and I thougt I'd got it. But I SO haven't!

Just like yI have a good head for maths and thought I'd pick it up easily but despite reading and re-reading the newbie thread, it just isn't 'clicking'!!

Than Betfair shows to lay
And if both sides get matched at price
Then I make some cash today

But if I get it wrong way round
and lay when I should bet
Im knackered and no profit
to set against my debt

The whole idea makes sense to me
I cant see what can foil it
But since I bet so poor my cash
would end up down the toilet

Yeah that's it, just have a dry run, download the spreadsheet and see if it would work, post the odds in the newbie thread and they'll give you pointers

There's always tips on the board for free bets, also betrescue has free bets and the odds checker site, plus some work through quidco.

The first one to do is Coral, a £50 free bet, plus sign up to Betfair through Quidco and you get £25 cashback

thats the next step for me... to figure out how to work the odds out! ...and I also dont understand what you put where in the spreadsheet i'm not vbery good with this! lol...
