Does recorded delivery count as 'tracked'?

Hi, need to return an item that has arrived broken, clearly unusable and not as described.

Seller has agreed to refund once item is returned. I have opened a case with Ebay, and plan to return today. I know it needs to be 'tracked' but does recorded delivery count as tracked for the purposes of an Ebay case? Just looked at the cost of special delivery, it is £6.35, quite a lot to pay (and lose) on a £35 item.

Thanks in advance,

I think the problem with recorded delivery is that it doesn't always track, and if you are unlucky and get a dishonest seller they may check online to see if its tracked, if it hasn't they could deny receiving it.

I am in the same situation and asked the seller how they wanted it sending seeing as eBay say it must be trackable. They said ParcelForce Express 48. For a 10kg box that's £15.30! Minimum is £11 something.

A tracked service is one where the progress of the parcel can be tracked along several stages of its journey. Recorded delivery is just that - recorded (upon delivery only) - it is not 'tracked'.

It is acceptable to return an item using recorded delivery but you do have the risk of it not be recorded as delivered as Kingsd316 says above.

Use one of the couriers on the cheap courier thread. Or try someone like P4D. I wouldn't ever book direct with a courier. You should be able to get something for £8 ish.

As has been said, no it's not 'tracked'. But Ebays wording is incorrect. They need something that either shows delivery, attempt delivery or refusal. Recorded should do this but doesn't always get scanned. Special delivery is tracked and will get what you need. Likewise a courier on the cheap courier thread may fit your purpose.
