My daughter started walking at 15 months, by 18 months I noticed she turned in on her ankles so took her to the doctor who diagnosed 'Genu Valgum'. I had visions of operations and plaster casts until I found out it meant 'Knock knees'. Why didn't he just say that!

She had inserts for a while but would take them out. She's grown up now and is fine but does find her ankles ache if she spends a lot of time in flip flop type shoes.

My son had the same problem, I spoke to the GP, he referred us quite quickly to the hospital and they sent him to get orthotic insoles fitted for his shoes. It's always worth asking about.

Thanks - I bumped into my friend who is a paediatrician (read loitered about after school til I saw her) and she watched dd walk home and said def take her to gp and ask for ref.

Thanks all for the advice - I always knew I was bendy/ odd - double jointed as we used to call it but its - never caused me problems - in fact I had no idea that the one thing I suffer with could be related so will mention it to my Dr when I next see her. Will def keep an eye on dd though.

Agree with the above. Even if the worse happens and it is something like HMS, she's young enough to get the right help to strengthen the bits that need strengthening. Remember how much of your life you've gone through relatively problem free. It doesn't affect everyone to the same degree. And not to read any horror stories about it, cross each bridge as you come to it
